While we consider our students and their families to be the people we must remain primarily accountable to, we are also accountable to outside agencies. These include the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia, The Office of Non-Government Education, the Curriculum Council and the State and Federal Governments, who provide the bulk of our funding.
In 2006 the Federal Government specified a number of criterion which must be fulfilled in order to be eligible for funding. This page is designed to demonstrate how we have complied with their requirements and gives details related to the various aspects of their accountability needs. At the same time, I hope it is useful and informative to current or prospective families of Kerry Street.

One requirement of the Federal Government is a functioning flag pole, which we installed in 2005 and was officially launched by Senator David Johnston (and reported in this newspaper article in the Fremantle Gazette)... We must also display the Values in Australian Schooling Poster and the Safe Schools Framework Poster, which we do, along with the Kerry Street Values Statement we wrote ourselves in 2006. |

In 2006 we were chosen to participate in TIMSS, an international study of trends in mathematics and science. The five students in year four in 2006 went very well and we have data that compares their results with other students in Australia. In maths, two of our five students scored in the top 10% and another in the top 25%. In science, one scored in the top 10% and three more in the top 25%. The students' self-confidence in learning maths and science was also high. Click here to download a pdf file showing graphs of the results.
We have a summary of the activities we undertook as a community, including professional development; excursions, incursions and camps; reporting to parents; school promotion and involvement in community events; and whole school projects. The Kerry Street 2008 yearbook is also a great way to find out about the school and the kids who come here.
One of our values is to be mindful of our role as caretakers of the earth. We submitted a Cockburn Council Sustainability Award application in 2008 and were successful in the Community Wellbeing category. We also submitted an application in 2009. Here's hoping.
At the graduation in 2008, parents of the graduates wrote down some things about the school related to why they sent their children to Kerry St, what they have appreciated and what they will take with them. Here is what they said.
Annual concerts are one way we demonstrate student achievement to parents. Concerts are also a celebration of our community, a lot of fun, and a perfect opportunity to display our unique style in school footwear! Seriously, though, the recorders sounded wonderful and the children were lauded by their experienced music teacher as the best group of recorder players she has ever taught.
