Education Assistant – Carolyn MacDonald
Hi, my name is Carolyn and I am the Education Assistant in the Year 2/3 class. I began my exciting and fantastic journey with the Kerry Street community in February 2013. I always wanted to be in education and working with the Pre-Primary/Year 1’s is a fulfilment of that dream. I love working with this age group because of the opportunity to be part of the amazement and joy that comes from their learning and discovery.
I believe that learning should incorporate a good balance of play-based exploration with both small and whole group sessions. It should also include a sense of safety, community and a big dose of humour.
Education Support Assistant – Shannon Davey
My name is Shannon. I gained my teaching qualification at the University of Tasmania in 2002. My previous experience includes schools in Perth, London and Oman. I was one of 3 teachers at an international primary school in Oman.
I first came to Kerry Street in 2013 as a volunteer to gain more experience when returning to teaching after having children. I subsequently started relief teaching in 2014 and was offered the role as an Education Assistant in 2015. I value how community-orientated and nurturing Kerry Street Community School is. I believe that we as educators need to provide an environment that caters for the students varied learning styles, interests and needs. Kerry Street does this in a fun, nurturing and safe learning environment.
As an Education Assistant I am lucky that I get to work closely with many students throughout the school. I love helping students to develop new skills and witnessing successes and achievements in their learning.
