Hi, I have been teaching at Kerry Street since 1998 in a variety of roles and classes, mainly in the early childhood years. I have run our Kindy classes since 2014. I am and have always been a believer in play based, hands on, FUN education…especially in the early years.
I run a child-centred programme, where the children strongly influence games and activities. I use humour, silliness and word play, music and drama, and games and imagination to encourage creativity and self-expression. I join in on the games as much as possible, enabling me to guide, influence and be a good role model, as well as have some fun. I encourage independence and self-regulation in addition to encouraging the children to play, play and play.
Outside of school life, I have spent many years traveling the world, being a semi-professional musician, dad joke specialist, keen Dockers supporter, home renovator and motorcycle enthusiast. I listen to and play bluegrass music, particularly the five-string banjo. I organise and run bluegrass jam sessions in the school hall, at cafes, on verandahs and at music festivals. I have also written two books and play soccer twice a week.
